The renewed and expanded Georgetown Branch and Halton Hills Cultural Centre officially opened on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. This greatly improved, environmentally friendly and fully accessible facility offers enhanced programs and services to meet the diverse needs of the Halton Hills community.

The building has numerous green features— a geothermal heating and cooling system, thermally efficient exterior walls and maximum glazing on the south side; exterior windows oriented to optimize sun exposure during the winter; strategic design of interior spaces to bring in daylight; light sensors to optimize artificial lighting; energy-efficient lighting fixtures and reduced lighting power density; energy recovery ventilators (ERV) units; and low-flow toilets and plumbing fixtures.

Halton Hills Public Library officially opened its new and improved 9,000 square foot branch in Acton, Ontario on February 26, 2011 to rave reviews. The building is fully accessible and energy efficient. It maximizes natural light, uses a geothermal system to heat and cool the building, incorporates green construction materials and techniques and conserves water through low flow fixtures. The Acton Branch was recently awarded a Gold Level of certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Beyond the improved architectural and design features of the new space, the branch also boasts an ever-growing collection of electronic texts, more Internet stations (two express, three for children and six for teens and adults), more places to study (two study rooms and a community multi-purpose room) and two self-checkout stations for greater convenience.
