2025 is a landmark year for Halton Hills, with both Glen Williams and Acton marking their 200th anniversaries. These bicentennial celebrations are a rare opportunity to honour two communities with deep roots, vibrant cultures, and lasting contributions to the region. Throughout the rest of the year, each village is hosting events that invite residents and visitors to explore their history, connect with their heritage, and enjoy unique local experiences.
How to Celebrate Acton’s 200th Anniversary
Acton’s history dates back to 1825, when Reverend Ezra, Reverend Zenas, and Rufus Adams settled in the area. Over the next two centuries, the town became a thriving hub for the leather industry, with the Beardmore Tannery once being the largest in the British Empire.
The Acton 200 campaign is dedicated to telling these stories and preserving them for future generations. Upcoming highlights include:
-
August 24 – Gone but Not Forgotten: Former Buildings of Acton walking tour
-
August 28 & September 3 – Vintage Acton history displays at the Acton Outdoor Market
-
October 19 – Tour of Fairview Cemetery
In addition to these events, local historian Scott Brooks will host a booth at the Acton Outdoor Market on August 28th and September 11th, where visitors can explore historic photographs and learn about Acton’s past. Special anniversary merchandise, including commemorative pins with proceeds benefiting Acton Foodshare, is also available for purchase.
