Established in 1975, this annual festival has grown into one of the largest single-day Highland Games in North America, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in Scottish heritage, from the stirring sound of bagpipes to the thrill of traditional athletic competitions including music, dance and heavy weight events.
This weekend, the 50th-anniversary celebration on June 14, 2025, promises a full day of excitement, with activities for all ages. Gates open at 8:00 AM, inviting visitors to explore the Georgetown Fairgrounds and historical displays and artifacts, offering a glimpse into Scotland’s rich past. The day kicks off with the Highland dancing competitions, where dancers showcase intricate footwork and centuries-old routines. Shortly after the heavyweight competitions begin, featuring legendary tests of strength such as the caber toss, hammer throw, and weight over bar, where athletes push their endurance to the limit. At 1:00 PM, the first Massed Pipes & Drums performance takes place, filling the fairgrounds with the powerful sounds of Scotland. With hundreds of pipers and drummers playing iconic tunes like "Amazing Grace" and "Scotland the Brave," this is a spectacle you won’t want to miss! A second performance will be held at 5:00 PM, ensuring attendees get a chance to experience the breathtaking display at least once.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of food vendors, retail booths, and cultural exhibits featuring authentic Scottish fare and artisan goods. Families will enjoy the children’s activity area, open from mid-morning to late afternoon, which includes face painting, balloon artists, and a bouncy castle! Sheepdog demonstrations will take place twice during the day, offering a look at one of Scotland’s oldest and most fascinating traditions, a great experience for both kids and adults.
