- Halton Hills Lecture Series – Tracing Black Lives in Guelph 1890-1945. Dr. Jade Ferguson, associate professor, University of Guelph, examines the social life and aspirations of Black men, women and children. This lecture seeks to raise awareness about the intimate lives of Black people, their vibrant communities, diverse voices, and cultural narratives.
- Livestream release of new music by Acton’s Liya Shepherd (January 30) supported by Artist Next Door.
- Equity and Diversity Book Club: a roundtable to discuss a diverse collection of books and encourage thought-provoking conversations
- Join the #ReadingBlackout campaign where HHPL staff with share information, on social media, about books by Black authors, throughout the month
- Video interviews by Francesca Durham from Culture Days 2020 with interdisciplinary artist Mosa McNeilly and hip-hop artist Promise.
- Family Storytimes that will feature books by Black authors and illustrators on HHPL Facebook.
- Recording of Jean Assamoa at the John Elliott Theatre, from Culture Days 2020.
- Featured reading lists and Black History Awareness educational resources will be shared on HHPL social media channels.
- A selection of artwork from the Helson Gallery’s past group exhibition by the Halton Black History Awareness Society, for Emancipation Day 2019.
- Winter Reading Challenge: patrons are encouraged to explore diverse authors, including Black authors.
- Various prominent, local and provincial Black individuals will be featured on HHPL social media throughout the month of February.
